In a noteworthy development, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its formal partnership with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

David Mark has been appointed as the interim chairman of the party, taking over from Ralph Okey Nwosu.

The ADC was officially recognised as the coalition’s leading party during a presentation held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

This announcement was shared through a press release signed by the leaders of the Lagos PDP coalition, which includes Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, Otunba Okanlawon, Chief Onita Coker, Dr. Lekan Lawal, Hon. Kayode Jacobs, Babatunde Olanrewaju, Barrister Kehinde Oshinowo, Chief Baba Jegede, Dr. Babs Akinlolu, Barrister Niran Akinsanya, Chief Dapo Sarumi, and Akeem Kolawole Olanrewaju.

The decision comes after an urgent meeting that gathered leaders and representatives from all 20 Local Government Areas of Lagos State, held at Ire Akari Estate in Isolo, Lagos. The gathering concluded that the current leadership challenges within the PDP, coupled with outside influences, require a proactive and strategic response. Participants unanimously decided that working with the ADC coalition is a crucial step towards revitalising political efforts and enhancing the integrity of democracy in the area.

The ongoing leadership challenges within the PDP underscore a pressing need for revitalisation, impacted by external factors that have affected the party’s leadership dynamics. Establishing a clear direction is essential for the effective allocation of resources and operational efficiency. A successful strategy for the upcoming 2027 elections involves creating strategic partnerships. The Lagos PDP aims to build robust alliances with other political groups and organisations, with the coalition focusing on reclaiming Lagos and restoring its political importance.

Under Hon. Rahman Owokoniran’s leadership, the conveners reiterate their dedication to democratic ideals that prioritise the empowerment of citizens. As the situation develops, continuous discussions will focus on ensuring unity and addressing any potential issues.

According to Owokoniran, “The integration of PDP Lagos into this coalition signifies a transformative period in Nigerian politics, with significant implications for the upcoming 2027 elections.” As the political landscape shifts, it is clear that the ADC coalition is set to play a crucial role in Nigeria’s democratic advancement.
