Obi: Why I joined ADC

Mr. Peter Obi, has explained why he joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform for the 2027 general elections.

Obi said the decision was not easy, but necessary, considering the state of the nation and the urgent need for transformative leadership.

“This decision was not made lightly. It comes from deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward,” Obi said in a post on his X page on Thursday.

He confirmed that the coalition of opposition figures, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has adopted the ADC as its political vehicle, with Senator David Mark as National Chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.

Obi said the group is united in its commitment to deliver capable, compassionate leadership in 2027.

“Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together… to ensure Nigeria gets leadership that puts the people first,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor, who has proposed to serve only one term if elected, added that Nigeria’s challenges require collective efforts.

“To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls—even when those bridges are uneasy,” he added.

The coalition was formally unveiled in Abuja on Tuesday, with other notable figures such as Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Sule Lamido, and Uche Secondus present.
