Customs makes second major cannabis seizure in two Weeks

The Nigeria Customs Service Area I in Idiroko, Ogun State, has handed over a substantial quantity of seized cannabis to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The seized consignment consists of 2,693 parcels of cannabis sativa, weighing 1,450 kilograms and valued at N172.92 million.
According to Comptroller Godwin Otunla, the command’s controller, the seizure was made on June 29, 2025, during an intelligence-driven operation. A Mercedes Benz truck with registration number EPE-595-LA was intercepted, and upon inspection, several parcels of cannabis sativa were found concealed within fabricated compartments in the truck.
The command’s operatives took swift action, and the truck was moved to the command’s headquarters for further investigation. The seizure is part of the command’s ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and cross-border crimes.
Comptroller Otunla reiterated the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to preventing the circulation of harmful substances in communities, especially among youths. He noted that the successful interception of the large quantity of illicit drugs is a significant step in safeguarding national security.
