Hollywood star Idris Elba has opened up about the challenges and revelations that come with aging, especially after hitting his 50s.
The 52-year-old actor made these statements during a chat on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast.
Elba shared that while the modern era places a strong emphasis on wellness and self-awareness, the physical body tends to betray even the most disciplined of individuals. “I don’t love that, at this age, the age of wellness and consciousness, it is so upon us, yet our bodies fail us,” he admitted.
Poehler, 53, agreed, humorously noting that injuries can now occur from something as simple as getting out of bed. The duo joked about how even everyday tasks like walking or squatting have become trickier.
Though Elba mentioned that he still tries to stay fit and mobile, he confessed that certain exercises like squatting come with their own set of struggles.
When Poehler asked, “Your knees can handle that?” Elba promptly replied, “No,” prompting laughter between the two.
Beyond the physical challenges, Elba reflected on the emotional and mental clarity he’s gained with age. “In my 30s and 40s, I was sort of blown with the wind. In the 50s, I’m like, ‘Nah. That wind has to pass around me.’ I’m not getting as easily influenced,” he said.
