Veteran Nollywood actor Razaq Olayiwola, popularly known as Ojopagogo, has emotionally recounted the painful moment he lost his first wife, Funmilayo, while he was away on a film set in 2000.
Speaking in an interview, Ojopagogo revealed that his wife was in good health when he left home for Abeokuta to shoot a movie titled Osuwon, directed by fellow actor Olaiya Igwe.
According to him, Funmilayo even encouraged him to take the job and helped him prepare for the trip despite heavy rainfall the previous night.
“It is not something I like to remember,” Ojopagogo said. “She was like my backbone. She was the one who gave birth to our children. The night before, she went out to borrow an umbrella for me so I could travel. That’s the kind of woman she was.”
The actor explained that upon arrival at the film location, he felt unsettled but couldn’t explain why. He was later informed by a relative who met him in Abeokuta that his wife had passed away unexpectedly.
“When I got home, people were gathered. I was still insisting nothing was wrong with her. I was in complete shock,” he said, adding that the memory still haunts him.
