The website of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) crashed after many Nigerians tried to register as members of a new opposition group.

On Friday, a user posted that the site stopped working because too many people were trying to join what they called a “rescue coalition.”

IntelRegion confirmed that the website went down because it could not handle the large number of people visiting it. The party has not yet released an official statement about the problem.

This happened just two days after the ADC was announced as the main platform for Nigeria’s new opposition alliance. The group plans to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

A Facebook user, Unclè Anass Dukura, said he kept getting error messages when he tried to access the site. He added that too many people were visiting at once, which the website was not built to handle.

The coalition was launched on Wednesday in Abuja with many top politicians in attendance. Supporters include former Senate President David Mark, ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Other politicians at the launch were former APC National Chairman John Oyegun, ex-Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, Dino Melaye, former Youth and Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, media mogul Dele Momodu, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe, former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, and retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

The ADC was first created in 2005 as the Alliance for Democratic Change. It later changed its name to the African Democratic Congress when it was registered by INEC.
