Popular Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode, famously known as Toyo Baby from the hit series Jenifa’s Diary, has taken to social media to express deep concern over the increasing rate of sexual activity among Nigerian teenagers.
In an Instagram post on Friday night, the 30-year-old actress said she is often speechless and heartbroken by the shocking stories she hears from young people, especially regarding their sexual experiences.
“What is your body count? The things I hear these days, especially from teenagers, make me speechless and break my heart,” she wrote.
Juliana, a known advocate for sexual purity and abstinence, emphasized that sex is spiritual, not just a pleasurable act, and should be reserved for married couples. She lamented the influence of modern culture and peer pressure that pushes young people into premature sexual relationships.
“Sex is spiritual. People only talk about the fun part, nobody really talks about the spiritual aspect of it… Sex and other sexual activities are for MARRIED people,” she added.
Drawing from her personal upbringing, the actress revealed that she still refrains from certain behaviours due to the strong moral values instilled in her by her mother. She warned that excessive freedom and lack of parental guidance may result in raising a generation of misguided adults.
Juliana also made reference to Proverbs 22:6, urging parents and guardians to be intentional about instilling the right values in their children.
“If we are not more intentional about the way we raise our children, we would not be happy about the kind of adults this generation would produce… Sometimes too much freedom is destructive.”
