Elon Musk launches new political party after falling out with Trump

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has officially launched a new political movement called the America Party, marking a dramatic shift in his political involvement following a messy fallout with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Musk made the announcement via his social media platform, X, on Saturday, July 5, after conducting an online poll asking if he should start a new political party. The poll, held on July 4, showed 65.4% of respondents in favour.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk declared. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

Musk, who previously held a high-profile advisory role in the White House as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, was once considered a close ally of Trump. However, tensions between the two have escalated in recent months, with both men engaging in heated online exchanges.

The launch of the America Party signals Musk’s intention to take on the traditional political establishment and potentially challenge the dominance of both major parties in the U.S.

The development is already gaining traction across the political landscape, with many awaiting the party’s next steps, including whether Musk will field candidates for upcoming elections.
