Chelsea reject loan offers for Lesley Ugochukwu, insist on permanent sale
Chelsea have rejected all loan proposals for French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, making it clear that only a permanent deal will be considered as part of their summer transfer strategy.
The 20-year-old, who spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Southampton, officially returned to Stamford Bridge on June 30, 2025. Despite interest from several clubs, including LaLiga side Valencia, Chelsea are not open to another temporary move.
Club sources confirmed that the Blues are focused on a full sale this summer, with the belief that Ugochukwu would benefit more from a stable, long-term football environment away from West London.
Aside from Valencia, a number of Premier League clubs have also shown interest in the France U21 international, but Chelsea have maintained their stance—no loan, only a permanent transfer.
Ugochukwu joined Chelsea from Ligue 1 side Rennes in 2023 in a deal worth around £23 million but has struggled to secure regular playing time at the club. After making limited appearances in his debut season, he was sent out on loan to Southampton where he gained valuable Premier League experience.
With new head coach Enzo Maresca now restrategising the squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, Chelsea are looking to reduce the number of players being sent out on loan and are prioritising permanent exits for fringe talents.
Negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming weeks as interested clubs weigh up a potential move for the young midfielder.
