Tragedy struck in the early hours of Monday as a deadly hit-and-run crash along Oke Iganmu in Ilaro, Ogun State, claimed the lives of four unsuspecting passengers.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, which occurred at about 3:50 a.m., involving a yellow tricycle with registration number DED425WB and an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene without a trace.
According to a statement by FRSC’s Public Education Officer, Mrs Florence Okpe, on behalf of the Ogun Sector Commander, Mr Akinwumi Fasakin, officers from the Ilaro Unit Command raced to the scene for an emergency rescue but were met with a grim reality—two male and two female adults had died on the spot.
The corpses of the victims have since been deposited at the State Hospital Morgue in Ilaro.
Preliminary investigations point to excessive speeding and reckless driving as likely causes of the devastating crash.
The sector commander expressed condolences to the bereaved families and issued a stark warning to motorists: drive safely or risk deadly consequences.
