Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa have been ranked among the world’s best countries in the 2024 Best Countries Rankings.
The report was released by U.S. News & World Report along with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and global marketing firm WPP.
In Africa, Egypt came first at 35th place in the world, Morocco was 39th, and South Africa was 40th.
The rankings are not based only on economic strength but also on how people around the world see each country. Over 17,000 people, including business leaders, educated elites, and the general public, took part in the survey.
They rated 87 countries based on 73 factors grouped into 10 main areas, such as culture, business, quality of life, power, and tourism.
Countries needed to have a certain level of GDP, tourism, and foreign investment to be included. Final scores also considered each country’s income per person to show how rich or developed it is seen to be.
“This survey reaches thousands of people worldwide,” said Elliott Davis from U.S. News & World Report. “How others see a country affects its standing in the world.”
Switzerland was ranked the world’s best country for the third year in a row. It was praised for its stability, strong business environment, and high quality of life.
The United States came third, its highest ever, due to its strong business openness and global influence. Japan was second because of its innovation and strong economy.
China moved up to 16th place this year, while Ukraine dropped 12 places to 80th, which was the biggest fall in this year’s ranking.
