The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has added an extra 250 megawatts (MW) to the national grid after it finished building a new transmission substation in Bauchi town.
The company’s Public Affairs General Manager, Ndidi Mbah, shared this news on Monday. She said the new Bauchi substation project started in February 2022 and has two 150MVA power transformers and one 75MVA reactor, among other equipment.
Mbah explained that the substation currently supplies power to the existing Bauchi substation but will later serve other areas.
She also said two new transmission towers were built to make the power network stronger and more flexible.
This project was done by TCN with support from the World Bank to improve electricity supply in Bauchi and the Northeast region. Most of the customers who will benefit from this project are under the Jos Electricity Distribution Company.
Mbah added that the project shows TCN’s commitment to expanding Nigeria’s power transmission network and improving electricity infrastructure across the country.
