From PDP to ADC: Owokoniran’s bold move and the future of Lagos

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos has warmly welcomed Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, the leader of the Lagos PDP coalition, along with other key members of the PDP coalition, including Chief Onita Coker, Hon. Kayode Jacobs, Dr. Tai Oyekan, Hon. Steven Olanrewaju, Hon. Hakeem Kolawole Olanrewaju, and Prince Segu Adeyeye. This significant ceremony took place at the ADC office in Ikeja, Lagos.

Owokoniran’s transition from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ADC is generating lively discussions within Nigeria’s political landscape. The event was attended by notable figures, including Mabel Oboh, the former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP.

Many see Owokoniran’s decision as a crucial opportunity for the ADC, likely encouraging other dissatisfied members of the PDP to follow suit. George Ashiru, the ADC Lagos Chairman, along with the members of the State Working Committee (SWC), expressed their strong support for Owokoniran’s move. They emphasised that his extensive experience and expertise will enhance the party’s presence in Lagos State and positively impact the community. They believe his leadership will bring about meaningful change and development in the region.

In his acceptance speech, Owokoniran thanked the ADC leadership and members for their warm reception. He reaffirmed his commitment to working with the party to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria, focusing on advancing the ADC’s principles and goals.

Owokoniran’s alignment with the ADC marks a promising advancement for the party, as his political background is expected to strengthen its presence in the area. The ADC’s endorsement of Owokoniran and the accompanying PDP members is viewed as a vital step in raising the party’s profile in Lagos State. Hon. Rahman Owokoniran is an experienced politician with a diverse administrative background. He previously served as a commissioner during Bola Tinubu’s administration, where he earned acclaim for his significant contributions. He was appointed Chairman of the Lagos State Local Government Council Creation Committee, which established twenty LGAs and thirty-seven LCDAs. Owokoniran has also held the position of PDP South West Secretary and has been instrumental in the party’s growth in the region.

His integration into the ADC is expected to have a lasting impact on the party’s trajectory.
