New grading system for LASU admission: What you need to know
Quick Read
The implication of this is that the new system places more emphasis on JAMB scores, making it crucial for prospective students to perform well in the exam. The two sittings rule also encourages students to take all required O'Level subjects in one sitting to avoid deductions.
The Lagos State University (LASU) has announced a new admission screening method, adopting a 60/40 grading system. This change affects the calculation of scores for admission, with a greater emphasis on JAMB scores.
In the new development, the JAMB score now accounts for 60% of the screening score, up from the previous 50% while O’Level results, such as WAEC or NECO, account for 40% of the screening score, down from the previous 50%.
Under the new rule, for students using two sittings for their O’Level results, 0.3 marks will be deducted from the total score for each subject presented from the second sitting.
How the new system works: The JAMB score is divided by 400 and then multiplied by 60 to get the score out of 60. The O’Level grades are scored out of 40 points, with A1, B2, B3, C4, C5, and C6 graded accordingly. The JAMB score and the O’Level score are added together to get the final screening score.
The implication of this is that the new system places more emphasis on JAMB scores, making it crucial for prospective students to perform well in the exam. The two sittings rule also encourages students to take all required O’Level subjects in one sitting to avoid deductions.
