The Police Command in Anambra, which engaged suspected criminals in a gun duel on Wednesday, has neutralised a suspect at Oko and Ekwulobia flyover in Aguata Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The shooting incidents also resulted in the fatal shooting of two unsuspecting members of the public.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Awka.
“The Anambra Police-led Security Force contained a shooting incident in the early hours of today, July 9, at Oko and Ekwulobia flyover, Aguata LGA.
“The team also demobilised one of the armed criminals, recovered one AK-47 rifle, one automatic pump action gun and four vehicles at the scene as the operatives sustained the onslaught operations in the area,” he said.
Ikenga said the vehicles recovered include one red coloured Toyota Camry vehicle with Registration Number ENU 58 SC, custom coloured GLK Mercedes Benz without a registration number, golden coloured Lexus 330 with Registration Number ENU 815 AP and one ash coloured Toyota Highlander with Registration Number GDD 517 RW.
“Regrettably, the incident recorded the death of two unsuspecting members of the public and the burning of a brown coloured Toyota Sienna vehicle allegedly belonging to the Anambra State Vigilante Group,” he said.
The PPRO said that the bodies of the deceased persons have been recovered and deposited in the morgue.
He also said that the Oko Divisional Police Station witnessed an attack, but the gallant police personnel on duty repelled the assault by the suspects.
According to him, no casualties were recorded on the side of security personnel.
