Arsenal have completed the signing of Denmark international Christian Norgaard from Brentford in a deal worth up to £15 million.
The 31-year-old joins the Gunners on a two-year contract, with an option for a third. The agreement includes an initial £10 million fee, with an additional £5 million in potential performance-related add-ons.
Norgaard, who joined Brentford from Fiorentina in 2019, quickly became a central figure for the club. He captained the team and made 196 appearances during his time in West London, playing a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League and their subsequent top-flight campaigns.
This transfer marks Arsenal’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a £60 million deal and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea for £5 million.
Speaking on his move, Norgaard expressed his excitement at joining a Champions League club:
“I’ve just turned 31 and had signed a new deal with Brentford. There was always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them.
“Now I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It’s a childhood dream and something I didn’t think would be possible. So it’s something I’m really, really happy about.”
Arsenal are also pursuing further reinforcements, with ongoing negotiations for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres in a proposed £70 million deal. The club has also made a formal approach for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke.
