Kenzy breaks silence on viral rumors surrounding his identity

In early 2025, Nigerian content creator and rising Nollywood actor Ezike Uche Kelvin, widely recognized by his stage name Kenzy, became the focus of widespread speculation after a series of TikTok clips led to unfounded rumors about his sexual orientation. What began as harmless creative content between friends was quickly misinterpreted by sections of the public and transformed into a viral controversy.

The videos in question lighthearted, expressive, and in line with Kenzy’s typical comedic style were clipped and re-shared across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), often accompanied by suggestive captions and misleading commentary. What many viewers failed to understand was the context: scenes created for entertainment were recast as evidence of a personal narrative that was never his.

As more content surfaced and names of other male creators were dragged into the conversation, the tone of public response shifted from casual assumptions to outright accusations. For Kenzy, the experience was both disorienting and disappointing.

In his first formal public statement addressing the issue, Ezike Uche Kelvin (Kenzy) chose clarity over confrontation.

“Those videos were taken from regular, creative moments between colleagues and friends,” he said. “There was nothing intimate or inappropriate. I am not gay, and the narratives being pushed are simply false. It’s unfortunate how quickly people jump to conclusions.”

Kenzy further emphasized that emotional expressiveness and friendship between men should not be misunderstood or vilified. As a performer whose content relies on vulnerability, humor, and cultural relevance, he’s concerned by how certain audiences still view male creativity through a limited lens.

“The problem isn’t the content,” he added. “It’s the assumptions people project onto it. There’s very little space for men to be expressive or close to one another publicly without facing unnecessary speculation.”

The incident has underscored a larger challenge faced by many male creatives particularly in environments where masculinity is policed, and public image is constantly under scrutiny. For Kenzy, it was a painful but revealing look into how perception can overshadow intention, and how misinformation spreads faster than truth.

Despite the discomfort the situation caused, Kenzy’s resolve remains firm. He continues to create and share content rooted in authenticity, while refusing to alter his approach or compromise his personality for the sake of public approval.

“I respect everyone, including those from communities that are often misunderstood. But no one should be misrepresented or forced into a narrative they didn’t choose,” he said. “I know who I am, and that won’t change based on online rumors.”

Kenzy’s rise to prominence has not been without its challenges. He has built a loyal following across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube through comedic storytelling, relatable characters, and a genuine connection with his audience. He has also earned growing respect in Nollywood, particularly following his role in the hit film After School, which surpassed 14 million views within a year.

Still, the experience of being falsely labeled served as a powerful reminder of the pressures that come with visibility in the digital age and the emotional toll that can follow when one’s identity becomes a subject of online debate.

“It was tough,” he admitted. “But it taught me the value of silence, reflection, and choosing which battles are worth fighting. At the end of the day, my work and my truth will always speak louder than false headlines.”

For many young Nigerians navigating the complexities of digital life, Kenzy’s response offers a valuable perspective a reminder that self definition must come from within, not from the speculation of strangers. His story also highlights the importance of discernment, empathy, and protecting one’s peace in a world where viral moments often come with unintended consequences.
