Reality TV star and disc jockey, Tolani Shobanjo, popularly known as Tolani Baj, has responded to accusations of theft made against her by an event promoter in Canada.
The promoter alleged that the former Big Brother Naija housemate was paid to perform at a show in Halifax but failed to appear and absconded with the deposit without issuing a refund.
In a statement shared via her social media handle, Tolani Baj denied the allegations, insisting that she arrived at the venue ready to perform but could not go ahead due to technical issues that could have been avoided.
“I want to take a moment to address some of the false narratives circulating about the recent event in Halifax,” she wrote. “I was booked for a show, I showed up excited and fully ready to perform, which there’s visible proof of on my page.”
She explained that the promoters failed to conduct a sound check as stipulated in her contract, leading to a technical failure with the DJ controller that was only discovered at the time of her scheduled performance.
“Had the sound check been done, the issue could’ve been caught and resolved before the performance,” she added.
Tolani Baj also clarified that she only received 50% of the agreed payment due to the disrupted event schedule, which had been affected by poor weather conditions.
“It’s quite disappointing to be called names or accused of theft when I was present at the venue and ready to deliver,” she said.
