Nollywood actress Azeezat Shorunmu has shared an emotional account of how she permanently lost her natural voice while filming the movie Apase.

Speaking in a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, Shorunmu recounted that the tragic news of veteran actress Mummy Surutu losing her child struck her on the very day filming was to commence.

Overwhelmed by grief and confusion, she screamed uncontrollably, a moment that would ultimately alter her life and career.

“I was shouting out of shock and sorrow, and suddenly, my voice was gone,” she said. “What I thought was just a blocked throat lasted for over four months.”

Despite trying various treatments, from medical solutions to spiritual remedies, including the use of anointing oil, her voice never returned to its original form. Instead, she now speaks with a raspy, cracked tone that has since become her signature sound in the industry.

The actress explained how the situation affected her ability to perform during production and express herself off set. “It hurts when you want to speak but can’t. That’s when I understood how painful it is to be voiceless,” she added.
