The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the ongoing Local Government (LG) elections in Lagos State.

The Speaker casts his vote on Saturday at Polling Unit 019, Ward E, on Oluwole Olaniyan Street in the Orile Agege area.

Speaking to journalists after voting, Obasa described the electoral process as “commendable and encouraging,” noting its smooth execution without disruptions.

“So far, the process has been peaceful and without any form of disruption. It is good to see citizens exercising their democratic rights,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Obasa arrived at the polling unit, briefly interacted with electoral officials and constituents, and then cast his ballot.

He praised the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for ensuring a well-organized process, emphasizing the importance of peaceful elections for democracy and good governance.

“It is important we all take part. Voting is both a right and a responsibility. Everyone should fulfil this civic duty,” he stated.

He expressed confidence that the election results would reflect the true will of the people, underscoring the need for transparency, fairness, and credibility throughout the process.

The speaker’s son, Abdulganiyu Obasa, an All Progressives Congress (APC) vice chairmanship candidate, also expressed optimism for a peaceful conclusion to the election.

The LG elections, covering chairmen and councillors across Lagos’ local government areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), continue with results expected to be announced by LASIEC.
