Two killed, four injured in Umuahia road accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps says two persons lost their lives in a crash involving a commercial Mark truck and a tricycle (Keke) with registration number ATN 201 VU along Umuahia – Uzuakoli road in Abia State.

The Sector Commander, FRSC RS9.3 Abia State Sector Command, Ngozi Ezeoma, who confirmed this in a statement on Saturday, said “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Abia State Sector Command regrets to announce a fatal road traffic crash that occurred on Friday, 11th July, 2025 at about 4:30 p.m., along the Umuhahia–Uzuakoli route, specifically at Umuda.

“Upon receiving the crash report at 4:33 p.m., our rescue team arrived at the scene promptly within 2 minutes to carry out emergency response operations”.

According to her, two males, three females and a child, were involved in the crash.  She said while four of them were injured, two were killed in the crash.

“Preliminary investigation suggests the probable cause of the crash was speed limit violation (SLV), aggravated by wet weather conditions, as it was raining at the time. The road was paved, but visibility and control may have been compromised due to the weather,” she said.

The injured victims , she said were were immediately moved to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, for medical attention. She added that the bodies of the those who died were taken to the FMC mortuary, Umuahia.
