Katsina declares Monday public holiday to mourn Buhari

According to the Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, the holiday is to enable residents to honour and reflect on the life and legacy of the late statesman.

The Katsina State Government has declared Monday, July 14, 2025, as a public holiday to mourn the passing of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari died at the age of 82 on Sunday evening in a UK clinic. According to the Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, the holiday is to enable residents to honour and reflect on the life and legacy of the late statesman.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda extended his condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina, and the nation at large. He described Buhari as a great leader, patriot, and elder statesman who gave his life to the service of Nigeria.

In his words, “He was a hero, a true democrat whose legacy will live on. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.”

Buhari’s remains are expected to arrive in Nigeria today for interment in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
