APC plotting to seize power through the back door in Osun - Adeleke
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke

As the political atmosphere in Osun grows increasingly charged, Governor Adeleke has yet to make an official statement regarding his next move

A major political realignment is unfolding in Osun State as hundreds of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), heightening speculation over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alleged plan to join the ruling party.

The wave of defections comes on the heels of a declaration by PDP leaders in the state, pledging to follow Governor Adeleke should he choose to leave the party.

The governor’s spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that consultations are ongoing within and outside the state regarding Adeleke’s political future.

In a high-level meeting held over the weekend at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo, key stakeholders of the PDP and the Osun State Government gathered to deliberate on the issue.

Those in attendance included Governor Adeleke, Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate Senator Lere Oyewumi, PDP State Chairman Sunday Bisi, National and State Assembly members, state executive council members, party elders, and former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

Following the meeting, a communiqué was issued, affirming the collective decision of party leaders and government officials to stand with Governor Adeleke in any political direction he may take.

Meanwhile, the Forum of Special Advisers to the Governor, led by Dr. Adekunle Akindele, has also expressed unwavering support for the governor.

The advisers stated that their loyalty to Adeleke transcends party affiliation.

In a parallel development, some defecting PDP members have declared support for Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, a former PDP chieftain who has now formally launched his 2026 governorship campaign under the APC.

Speaking at the event, Adebayo Adeniran, a former PDP stalwart, said the decision to join the APC was based on its capacity to provide a viable platform for leadership in Osun.

Dr. Ogunbiyi, while addressing supporters, described the APC as a “winning team,” attracting influential figures across party lines.

However, he downplayed speculation surrounding Adeleke’s alleged plans to join the APC.

Despite the growing momentum, opposition has emerged from the camp of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.

His supporters have insisted that Adeleke must not be allowed to contest the APC ticket for 2026, arguing that Oyetola remains the rightful candidate and should be given the opportunity to complete another term.

As the political atmosphere in Osun grows increasingly charged, Governor Adeleke has yet to make an official statement regarding his next move.
