Arsenal close to tying down Ethan Chidiebere Nwaneri on long-term deal
Arsenal are on the verge of securing a new long-term contract for teenage star Ethan Nwaneri, amid growing speculation about his future.
The 18-year-old, who scored nine goals in 37 appearances last season, has just one year left on his current deal, sparking fears he could leave the Emirates.
Rumours intensified with the impending arrival of Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and Arsenal’s pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze — two players who could compete with Nwaneri for a starting spot.
However, the England U-21 international appears keen to stay, with talks now in their final stages, according to The Athletic. Arsenal are expected to offer a five-year deal, or a four-year contract with an option for an extra year.
Sources close to negotiations confirm that Nwaneri made no demands for guaranteed playing time. Instead, his priority has always been to remain at his boyhood club.
If he signs, Nwaneri will become the third Arsenal player to commit long-term this summer, following new deals for Myles Lewis-Skelly (until 2030) and Gabriel (until 2029).
Nwaneri, who joined Arsenal’s academy at eight, made history in 2022 as the Premier League’s youngest-ever player at 15 years and 181 days old. He has since racked up 39 senior appearances and nine goals.
