Full list: Ayo Edebiri, Uzo Aduba lead Nigerians at 2025 Emmy nominations
Nigerians are doing it once more in the world as two Hollywood actresses of Nigerian origin, Ayo Edebiri and Uzo Aduba, both secured top nominations at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Edebiri swept up dual nominations for guest star appearances on the popular FX comedy series The Bear – ‘outstanding lead actress’ in a comedy series and ‘outstanding directing’ for a comedy series. She is the first woman to be double-nominated in both categories for the same series, having done so after appearing in the series.
Aduba, on the other hand, has been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category for her performance in Netflix’s The Residence. Three-time Emmy winner Aduba has won awards in the past for her work on Orange Is the New Black and for Mrs. America.
The two women are among numerous Nigerians making their mark in the Hollywood scene and entertainment world at large. Other past International Emmy Award nominees include Chiwetel Ejiofor, who was nominated for Dancing on the Edge and The Elephant Queen, and Ruona J. Meyer, who is the first Nigerian journalist to have been nominated for an International Emmy for her investigative report Sweet, Sweet Codeine.
The 77th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on CBS on September 14 and are hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze.
