EPL: Guardiola sets to offload six players as Man City reshape squad

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, is preparing for a major squad reshuffle ahead of the 2025/2026 Premier League season, with at least six players reportedly set to leave the Etihad Stadium.

According to reports from The Athletic, the Spanish tactician has identified a number of players who are no longer part of his long-term plans.

Among the high-profile names likely to depart are England international John Stones and experienced midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, both of whom have played crucial roles for City in recent years.

The decision comes as part of Guardiola’s strategy to streamline his squad following a disappointing campaign last season, in which Manchester City fell behind rivals Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

The club has already been active in both the winter and summer transfer markets, bringing in new talent to strengthen key positions.

However, Guardiola is now focused on reducing the squad size to ensure better balance and more consistent performances.

Stones, 31, has spent seven seasons at the club and was a vital part of City’s domestic and European successes. However, injuries and inconsistent form in recent months have seen him fall down the pecking order.

City are now open to offers for the central defender as they look to rejuvenate the backline.

Gundogan, who only returned to City last year after a short spell at Barcelona, is also on the potential exit list.

These include highly-rated academy graduate Nico O’Reilly, Argentine wonderkid Claudio Echeverri, and Norwegian winger Oscar Bobb, all of whom have seen limited first-team action.
