Nigeria meets OPEC production quota for second time in 2025

Nigeria has achieved its crude oil production target for the second time in 2025, reaching a daily output of 1,505,474 barrels in June, PM News has learnt.
This figure, released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), meets the 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd) quota set by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
According to the National Liquid Hydrocarbon Production Report, Nigeria had previously hit its target in January with a production of 1,538,697 bpd. However, production dropped to 1,465,006 bpd in February and 1,400,783 bpd in March. It later increased to 1,485,700 bpd in April before slightly declining again to 1,452,941 bpd in May.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) is working on a plan to raise the country’s OPEC quota by 25 percent by 2027.
This would increase Nigeria’s production quota from 1.5 million bpd to 2 million bpd.
Speaking to Newsmen, NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Ojulari, said the country’s current crude oil output is around 1.4 million bpd, while condensate production adds another 250,000 bpd, bringing total output to approximately 1.65 million bpd.
Ojulari said NNPC is targeting a production capacity of 2.4 million bpd and expects to produce 2 million bpd by 2027—1.7 million bpd from crude oil and 300,000 bpd from condensates.
