Nigeria crash out of FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup after heavy defeat to Hungary

Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress have bowed out of the ongoing FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Czechia after suffering a 77–51 loss to Hungary on Wednesday night, July 16.

The Nigerian girls started strong, holding their European opponents to a 9–9 tie in the first quarter, but Hungary took control in the second quarter, outscoring Nigeria 30–12 to seize the momentum.

Despite an improved effort in the third quarter, where Nigeria posted 15 points against Hungary’s 16, the gap proved too wide. Hungary wrapped up the contest with a 16–15 edge in the final quarter to seal a comfortable victory.

Kinga Jisepovits starred for Hungary with 19 points, while Eliza Farbas dominated the boards with 13 rebounds. For Nigeria, Tobenna Nweke led with 12 points, and Francis Chukwu grabbed 9 rebounds.

Although the defeat ends their journey, Nigeria made history as the first African team to win a game and reach the Round of 16 at the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup.
