A South-West ex-officio of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the PDP, dismissing recent defections to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as politically inconsequential.
Ewenla, in a strongly worded statement, described the PDP as the only nationally accepted, structured, and experienced political party capable of rescuing Nigeria from what he called the “economic hardship, insecurity, and misrule” of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Coalitions can be useful in challenging dominant ruling parties like the APC, whose governance many Nigerians find deeply troubling,” he said. “But at the end of the day, PDP stands out as the platform with real capacity to reform and rebuild the nation.”
Reacting to the wave of defections from the PDP to ADC, Ewenla claimed that many of those parading themselves as defectors were never truly active or relevant within the party, especially in Lagos.
He alleged that some of the defectors had previously worked against the PDP’s interests during the 2023 general elections, and questioned their loyalty and contributions to the party during that period.
“It is on record that some of them never attended PDP meetings in their various wards or local governments,” he said. “Some are even members of Labour Party or APC in secret while pretending to be with us.”
Ewenla further criticized what he described as hypocrisy among the defectors, noting that many of them remained on PDP WhatsApp platforms despite publicly announcing their exit from the party.
“This is a clear sign of a lack of integrity. If they truly believed in ADC, they would fully exit PDP spaces instead of trying to promote a ‘dead-on-arrival’ party from within our system,” he said.
The PDP chieftain also questioned the political weight of the defectors, claiming that many only appear during election seasons and disappear when not contesting for office.
Looking ahead to 2027, Ewenla expressed optimism about the PDP’s chances at the national level, declaring that the party would unseat the APC and restore hope to Nigerians.
“No amount of grandstanding by ADC leaders can change the fact that PDP remains the only party with the structure and national reach to rescue this country,” he concluded.
