Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr has revealed an emotional encounter with global pop icon Rihanna, who she says called her one of her favourite artistes.
Speaking in a recent interview with ETalk TV, the Rush hitmaker recalled meeting Rihanna and being overwhelmed by the experience.
Describing the billionaire singer as “an amazing person and somebody to look up to,” Ayra Starr said their meeting felt surreal, especially after learning Rihanna was already a fan of her music.
“To be honest, it still feels like a dream,” she said. “People always say, ‘never meet your idols’, but I’m so glad I met mine. The fact that she loves my music — I’m my favourite artist’s favourite artist.”
Ayra Starr didn’t hold back on the admiration she has for the Fenty Beauty mogul, calling her an “amazing artist, an amazing woman, an amazing person in general.”
The Mavin Records star also opened up about feeling nervous around Rihanna and how she resorts to cracking awkward jokes just to cope with the excitement.
“I know I chose a great role model, and being able to be around her… I usually don’t know what to do with myself,” she admitted.
Looking to the future, Starr expressed her hope to collaborate with Rihanna on a song.
