Tinubu govt hits back at ADC over Buhari burial comment
The Presidency has fired back at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its claim that President Bola Tinubu exploited the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari for political gain.
A statement signed by Sunday Dare, the Presidency, described ADC’s allegation as “a laughable tantrum from a desperate party gasping for attention.”
“The latest outburst from the ADC regarding former President Buhari’s state burial is nothing but an opportunistic exercise in manufactured outrage,” the statement read.
Accordingly, the Presidency noted that the ADC has reduced itself to issuing “disjointed” press releases just to appear relevant.
“A party still grappling with an identity crisis presumes lecturing the President on governance and decorum? How utterly ridiculous,” Dare wrote.
The ADC had accused the Tinubu administration of politicizing Buhari’s funeral, but the Presidency insists that the burial was handled with “complete honour befitting a leader of Buhari’s stature,” adding that world leaders attended and millions of Nigerians tuned in with solemn respect.
The statement also took a swipe at opposition figures, accusing them of trying to score cheap points from the event.
“Let it be said clearly: the ADC is the one exploiting Buhari’s death for political attention, not this government. They have chosen to dance on his grave for relevance,” Dare stated, citing the presence of Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai in Daura as “choreographed moves for political capital.”
The Presidency didn’t stop there. It rolled out a scorecard of Tinubu’s achievements so far — from stabilising the naira and harmonising exchange rates, to improving oil production and launching the historic student loan scheme.
“These are results, not press statements. What does the ADC offer Nigerians beyond sanctimonious whining? Absolutely nothing,” the statement added.
It concluded by urging Nigerians to ignore what it called the “political noise” of the ADC:
“President Tinubu remains focused on delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda, not on dignifying the desperate antics of political scavengers.”
