The Benue State Police Command has confirmed renewed violent clashes related to a long-standing land dispute between border communities in Benue and Cross River states, PM News has learnt.

The hostilities, which reignited on July 18 along the Mbazerem (Vandeikya LGA, Benue) and Andabonkep (Obudu LGA, Cross River) boundary, escalated again on Saturday, reaching Obudu town.

PM News scooped that a man identified only as Agege, a native of Tsar in Benue’s Vandeikya LGA, was reportedly attacked in Obudu.

Sources suggest he may have been killed, though his body had not been recovered at the time of reporting.

In response to fears of retaliatory attacks, the Chairman of Vandeikya LGA ordered the immediate evacuation of Tiv students studying in Obudu.

The evacuation was completed without incident, with armed police escorts ensuring their safe return to Benue State.

Security forces have since been deployed to the affected areas as operatives from both states work to restore peace and prevent further violence.

To address the situation, Area Commanders from Benue and Cross River are expected to lead a peace meeting involving local chiefs, community leaders, and senior police officials from Zones 4 and 6.
