Quick Read
Jamaica’s time moved them up to 15th place in the world rankings. As a result, Nigeria, who were previously 16th with their 38.20s time
Nigeria’s men’s 4x100m relay team has dropped out of the automatic qualification spots for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
This happened after Jamaica ran a fast time of 37.80 seconds to win at the London Diamond League on Saturday.
The Jamaican team — made up of Rohan Watson, Oblique Seville, Kadrian Goldson, and Kishane Thompson — finished ahead of Great Britain (38.08s) and the Netherlands (38.17s).
Jamaica’s time moved them up to 15th place in the world rankings. As a result, Nigeria, who were previously 16th with their 38.20s time from the Paris 2024 Olympics, dropped out of the top 16.
Only the top 16 teams qualify for the 4x100m relay at the World Championships this September.
Now, Nigeria will need to compete in other events and try to run a faster time to reclaim a top-16 spot and qualify. The team has managed to do this in the past.
