Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide and vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate what he describes as ongoing death threats from supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

In a detailed statement posted on X on Sunday, Omokri alleged that these threats, which had targeted him and his family, stemmed from his public support for Tinubu and his efforts to counter misinformation spread by Obi and his supporters.

Omokri specifically highlighted a new threat from an individual identifying as Caleb Ancient Spirit, whom he claimed is promoting Obi on Facebook.

“I am again compelled to draw the attention of the Nigerian Police Force to another death threat made against me by yet another supporter of Peter Obi,” Omokri wrote, providing a link to the individual’s Facebook activity.

He also referenced previous threats, including one from Arise TV presenter Rufai Oseni, which he claimed was recorded during a call to a relative, and another from Justice Ozobi, an alleged Obi supporter.

Additionally, Omokri recounted incidents where individuals he believed to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) trailed him to his UK residence and jogging route along Apsley Locks.

The former aide traced the origin of these threats to his public correction of a claim made by Oseni on Arise TV’s Morning Show on November 22, 2022.

Oseni had stated that Tinubu did not attend Chicago State University, a claim Omokri refuted after personally verifying Tinubu’s academic record.

“I took this stance after flying to Chicago on September 19, 2022 to verify directly from source that then candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu truly was admitted, attended and graduated from Chicago State University,” Omokri stated, noting that the university confirmed Tinubu graduated Cum Laude, equivalent to a First Class degree in Nigeria.

Omokri further claimed that the threats escalated after he declared support for the Tinubu administration and began countering what he described as “lies told by Mr. Peter Obi in his desperation to become President of Nigeria by de-marketing our beloved country.”

He emphasized that he has no personal fear of death, stating, “I personally have no fear of death, being a fatalistic believer in God appointing a date of birth and death.”

However, he expressed concern for his family’s safety, particularly citing threats directed at his underage child.

“Because some of these threats have been directed at other members of my family, including my underage child, I am pressed to appeal to the authorities in Nigeria to investigate these perilous intentions,” he wrote.

This is not the first time Omokri has raised the alarms about threats from Obi’s supporters, known as “Obidients.”

In July 2022, he claimed IPOB members, whom he alleged were posing as Obidients, threatened his life and family, prompting him to hold Obi responsible for any harm.

More recently, on July 13, 2025, Omokri petitioned Egbetokun to investigate a video in which he was tagged, showing a Nigerian threatening his life, again linking the threat to Obi’s supporters.

The Nigerian Police Force has reportedly initiated investigations into earlier threats, including those allegedly made by Oseni and Ozobi, as acknowledged by Omokri in a July 16 X post: “I thank the Nigerian Police Force for their speedy response in beginning an investigation into the death threat made against me by one Justice Ozobi, a supporter of Peter Obi, which was preceded by another death threat against me by the notorious Obidient news anchor, Rufai.”
