PDP react to assassination attempt on Anambra governorship candidate
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the attack on its Anambra governorship candidate, Chief Jude Ezenwafor, by unknown gunmen in Abuja, calling it a desperate move by anti-democratic forces.
Ezenwafor was reportedly ambushed and shot at on Saturday night while returning from an appointment, a development the PDP says is linked to the growing popularity of its candidate ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election.
In a statement on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party accused those it described as “threatened interests” of orchestrating the attack.
“After a critical analysis of the violent incident, the PDP believes certain interests who are clearly uncomfortable with the growing acceptance of our candidate are behind this cowardly attack,” Ologunagba said.
The opposition party also alleged fresh plots to smear Ezenwafor following the failure of the assassination attempt.
“This attack is another tragic reflection of the deepening insecurity and lawlessness under the rudderless APC-led administration,” it added.
PDP called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately investigate the incident, arrest the perpetrators, and beef up security around its candidate.
“Our candidate is divinely destined and enjoys the overwhelming support of the people. He will emerge victorious,” the statement stressed.
The party urged Ezenwafor to remain focused, insisting that no level of violence or intimidation will stop Anambra people from electing a “transparent, people-oriented government.”
