Cosby show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner drowns at 54, final video before death emerges
Tragedy has hit Hollywood as Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the actor who played Theo Huxtable on the legendary sitcom The Cosby Show, has died at the age of 54.
The actor drowned while swimming at Cocles Beach in Limon, Costa Rica, where he was vacationing with his family, according to TMZ.
Police say he was caught in a strong ocean current and could not make it back to shore. His body was discovered on Sunday, July 20, and authorities confirmed the cause of death as asphyxia.
Warner, who shot to fame as the Huxtables’ only son in the hit NBC series that aired from 1984 to 1992, had been in Costa Rica for a week. A video showing his last public sighting—arriving in the country looking relaxed and cheerful—has now surfaced online, breaking fans’ hearts.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Warner was named after civil rights icon Malcolm X and jazz legend Ahmad Jamal. His career spanned decades, from acting and directing to hosting the podcast Not All Hood.
He is survived by his wife and young daughter.
