Osun governor, Ademola Adeleke on Tuesday revealed that he will remain in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP while the state chapter of the party has also adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 general election.
Adeleke said the decision that he should remain in PDP and adoption of Tinubu as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election was reached at his meeting with leaders of the party in Osun State on Monday.
He said the meeting with the PDP leaders followed weeks of consultations with stakeholders including traditional rulers, civil servants, market leaders and grassroots party members in the state.
The governor said he was also endorsed as the sole candidate of PDP for the Osun 2026 governorship election.
He said this was contained in the communique by the Osun PDP leadership caucus.
“I will remain in the PDP, the party that gave me the platform to serve the good people of Osun. I have been unanimously endorsed by the Osun PDP for a second term in 2026. Our party in Osun has also endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027, recognizing him as a proud son of our state,” Adeleke said while enumerating the resolutions reached at the meeting of the PDP leaders in the state.
“PDP remains the most popular and trusted party across Osun State. I will continue to deliver on our Five-Point Agenda with renewed focus and dedication. The love and support from the people of Osun continues to inspire me. Together, we move forward,” he added.
Recall that there have been speculations that the governor is set to dump the PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC ahead of the election for his second term in 2026.
However, key members of the APC in Osun State had opposed the move as they believe that admitting the governor into the party will automatically made his a leader of the party in the state with the governorship ticket of the party for the 2026 election in his pocket.
