Revealed: PDP moves to zone 2027 presidential ticket to South
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to throw its weight behind a southern presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.
This was confirmed by the party’s Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, who disclosed that the ticket has been “opened to all eligible southerners.”
Osadolor spoke ahead of the party’s crucial meetings in Abuja, where the National Executive Committee (NEC), Board of Trustees (BoT), and caucus will deliberate on zoning, ratification of state congresses, and plans for the national convention.
“This is not a contentious NEC,” Osadolor assured. “We are preparing for the convention and will look at committees on zoning. The PDP has opened the presidential ticket to all eligible southerners. We are zoning to the South.”
The move signals a return to the party’s power-rotation principle, which many believe was breached in 2023 when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged as the flag bearer, triggering widespread discontent among southern stakeholders.
