Gunmen execute 2 Nigerian traders in cold blood in South Africa – NiDCOM blows hot
Panic and outrage have trailed the brutal killing of two Nigerian traders in Durban, South Africa, after masked gunmen stormed an office and opened fire at close range.
The victims, identified simply as Austin and Ayo, were shot dead on the spot in what eyewitnesses described as a cold-blooded execution. The assailants, who reportedly wore masks, barged into Austin’s office and fired multiple shots before escaping without trace.
Reacting to the shocking incident, the Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, condemned the killings and vowed that justice will be served.
In a statement issued by NiDCOM spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa has already waded into the matter.
“She noted that the early warning mechanism put in place by both countries to prevent such attacks has yet to be implemented by South Africa,” the statement read.
While consoling the bereaved families, Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians in South Africa to remain calm and not take laws into their hands, assuring them that the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner in Pretoria has demanded a thorough and transparent investigation from South African authorities.
Reports said the two traders died instantly after the attackers pumped bullets into their bodies without uttering a word, leaving the community in shock and fear of more targeted attacks.
