Nigerian singer Sean Tizzle has paid tribute to Sound Sultan, his late colleague who passed on in 2021.
Sean Tizzle expressed regrets over not saying certain things before the singer passed on. He described him as his mentor and noted that he greatly impacted his career and life.
Sean Tizzle whose tribute comes years after the veteran’s death, explained that he never found the right words to pay tribute to Sound Sultan.
“A Letter to My Mentor. Dear Sound Sultan, It’s taken me years to find the right words. Maybe I was scared they wouldn’t be enough. Maybe I was still trying to understand how to say goodbye. You were more than just a legend to me. You were a big brother, a guide, a quiet force who saw something in me before the world ever did. And you gave me a chance when others wouldn’t even look my way. You believed, and that belief lit a fire that still burns in me today,” he wrote.
The singer also noted that the late legend impacted him not just musically but also in values.
“I remember the early days your words, your encouragement, your way of making greatness look effortless. You didn’t just teach me about music. You taught me humility, grace, and the importance of using my voice for more than just melodies. And you were selfless. You gave without expecting. You showed up when you didn’t have to. And though you’re not here with us in the physical, your impact lives on in every song, every stage I step on, every time someone says “Sho Lee still hits different. I wish I said this earlier, to your face. I wish I hugged you tighter. But now, I say it to the world. Thank you, Sound Sultan. I am because you were. I carry your spirit with me always,” he wrote.
