President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s Super Falcons for their thrilling victory in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Super Falcons clinched a record-extending 10th continental title with a dramatic 3-2 comeback against host nation Morocco in Rabat on Saturday.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the team’s extraordinary resolve and skill, highlighting their ability to overcome a two-goal deficit against a formidable Moroccan side buoyed by a passionate home crowd.

“The Super Falcons’ spectacular performance tonight in Rabat exemplifies the determination that defines the Nigerian spirit,” the President said.

“With hard work, dedication, and tenacity, you have achieved the mission the nation dreamed of and prayed for.”

The Super Falcons’ victory, sealed by a late goal from substitute Jennifer Echegini in the 88th minute, marked Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON triumph, reinforcing their unparalleled dominance in African women’s football.

The match saw Esther Okoronkwo and Florence Ijamilusi score crucial goals to level the scoreline before Echegini’s decisive strike, showcasing the team’s depth and unyielding spirit.

President Tinubu expressed national pride in the team’s achievement, stating, “The nation looks forward to welcoming our champions. Congratulations! Nigeria celebrates you.”

The victory, dubbed “Mission X” by the Super Falcons, not only secured a $1 million prize but also underscored Nigeria’s enduring legacy in women’s football, with an unbeaten record in WAFCON finals.
