Breaking: Trump, EU strike new trade deal to avert 30% tariffs

Trump and EU trade deal

The United States and the European Union have reached a major trade agreement just days before a tariff war was set to explode.

President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sealed the deal on Sunday during a meeting at Trump Turnberry golf resort in Scotland.

Under the new terms, most EU products heading to the U.S. will face a 15% tariff, effectively halving the looming 30% rate that was due to kick in on August 1.

The agreement also includes hundreds of billions of dollars in EU investments into U.S. industries, a move Trump described as “a historic win for American workers.”

The breakthrough mirrors last week’s U.S.-Japan trade pact, which also set a 15% rate, signaling Washington’s tough but uniform trade posture under Trump.

Details on which sectors will see the heaviest impact are expected in the coming days, but sources say autos, steel, and agriculture will be central to the deal.
