Mikel Arteta breaks silence on Arsenal’s transfer plans after Viktor Gyokeres deal
Arsenal’s biggest summer move is done, but Mikel Arteta has hinted the Gunners might not be finished, yet.
The north London club finally landed Viktor Gyokeres in a £63.5m deal from Sporting CP after a drawn-out two-month chase. The Swedish striker was revealed ahead of Arsenal’s pre-season clash with Newcastle, which signals preparedness for the 2025/26 campaign.
Gyokeres joins an already top squad that includes Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Christian Nørgaard. Arsenal’s spending under new sporting director Andrea Berta has surged past £200m in just one window.
Still, Arteta is leaving the door open.
“Let’s see. The market is still going on and we’ll have to balance out the squad as well. I think we’ll be open to see what happens,” the manager said when asked if the business was done.
Reports suggest Arsenal are preparing a £60m bid for Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze, who is keen on a move to the Emirates. However, further incomings may hinge on outgoings, with only £7m recouped so far from sales, including Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos.
Arteta praised the club’s transfer execution, saying: “To identify talent is one thing; delivering is another. The club has done incredibly well. Andrea and his team have been fantastic. So early in the window, we already have the reinforcements we wanted.”
