Video: rejected marriage proposal ends in bloodbath in Kogi

A rejected marriage proposal has ended in tragedy in Kogi State after a man allegedly butchered a woman who refused to let him marry her daughter.

The suspect, identified as Yayu Musa, is accused of killing 50-year-old Atayi Abdul in Olla community, Omala Local Government Area, on Friday, July 25.

Police said Musa lured the woman to her farm at about 8:00 p.m. under the guise that thieves were stealing palm fruits. When she arrived, he allegedly attacked her and slit her throat with a knife.

Detectives arrived at the scene, documented evidence, and arrested the suspect. He is now in custody.

The victim’s family, however, rejected an autopsy and opted for immediate burial in line with cultural and religious practices.

To prevent reprisal attacks, the Kogi State Police Command has deployed security patrols to the area as tension escalates.

While the motive is still under investigation, a family source, Lawal Abdulazeez Muhammed, claimed Musa committed the crime because the woman refused to allow him marry her daughter.
