Jennifer Okundia

Distinguished pharmacist, consultant, and corporate leader, Maxwell Ehiano Okogbenin, has been honored with the Transformational Leadership Award by the Business Process Management Institute (BPMI), Nigeria, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to enterprise transformation, process optimization, and leadership excellence within the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector.

The award, presented at the Institute’s annual leadership recognition ceremony in Lagos, celebrated individuals who have demonstrated an exceptional ability to drive organizational change, align strategy with execution, and inspire innovation across industries. Okogbenin stood out for his two-decade career of reshaping pharmaceutical business models, mentoring professionals, and championing governance reforms in healthcare enterprises.

Speaking after receiving the award, Okogbenin dedicated the recognition to “all the professionals and teams I have had the privilege to work with over the years.”

He added, “Leadership is not about holding a position; it is about making bold, sometimes difficult, decisions that create lasting impact. Transformational leadership requires vision, resilience, and a relentless commitment to excellence.”

Colleagues and industry peers praised him as a leader who embodies both strategic foresight and people-centered management. From his early days at Savvy Consulting, where he helped redesign business processes for pharmaceutical SMEs, to his current role as Chairman of the Board at Kester Pharmacy Limited, Okogbenin has consistently demonstrated the ability to lead organizations through change.

His consulting role at Ambassadors Pharmaceuticals Limited, where he spearheaded enterprise transformation initiatives, was particularly highlighted by BPMI as a model of innovation-driven leadership.

In addition to his corporate roles, Okogbenin has contributed significantly to professional development and institutional governance. He has served on the Membership and Examination Committee of BPMI (2020) and chaired the Compulsory Professional Development Committee (2023), where he championed continuous learning and ethical leadership in the sector.

The Transformational Leadership Award adds to his growing list of accolades, including his Fellowship of BPMI (2018) and the National Leading Business Growth and Sustainability Award from the Chartered Institute of Mentoring and Coaching. Collectively, these recognitions underscore his influence as a thought leader committed to aligning healthcare delivery with sustainable business practices.

BPMI’s President noted during the event, “Maxwell Okogbenin represents the type of leadership Nigeria needs today—leaders who are not afraid to challenge the status quo, drive reforms, and empower others to reach their full potential.”

With this award, Okogbenin’s place as a key voice in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical and business transformation space is further solidified, setting an example for emerging leaders across the continent.
