Former Osun governor, Rauf Aregbesola said he has instructed his supporters to mobilise for the opposition’s coalition African Democratic Congress, ADC to take the state from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2026 governorship election.

Aregbesola who is the national secretary of ADC said this in a statement posted on his social media platform on Sunday.

He vowed that members of ADC will bring back ‘people-centred government’ in Osun State

To achieve this, Aregbesola said he urged his supporters at the meeting to actively participate, mobilise and galvanise people of voting age who have benefited from his various programmes when he was governor in Osun as well as those who have been left behind by successive governments to register and be ready to vote in forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

According to the governor, the CVR, scheduled to commence on 18th August, is crucial to the task taking over Osun State in 2026.

“I urged everyone to actively participate, mobilise, and galvanise our people,” Aregbesola said.

His statement reads, “I was delighted to join our committed and ever-resilient stakeholders of the Omoluabi Progressives, Osun, at our monthly meeting held today in Ilesa, State of Osun.

“At the gathering, I expressed my appreciation to the leaders of all local governments present for their unalloyed support, unflinching loyalty, steadfastness, and personal commitment, both financial and material, to the growth of our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Their resolve to reclaim our state for the entrenchment of good governance and a PEOPLE-FRIENDLY GOVERNMENT (PFG) is deeply commendable.

“I reminded our members that the time has come to swing into action. The forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, scheduled to commence on 18th August, is crucial to the task ahead. I urged everyone to actively participate, mobilise, and galvanise our people, especially young people of voting age who have benefited from our various programmes in Osun, as well as those who have been left behind by successive governments, to register and be ready to vote.

“I also emphasised the need to maintain decorum in our political engagements. Rather than resort to name-calling or personal attacks, we must focus on policy- and issue-based debates that enrich political discourse and set the tone for our mission to return Osun to true progressive leadership.

“We are convinced and reassured of the support of our people to take us to the desired zenith. Nigeria must work in our lifetime. We will bring back a PEOPLE-CENTRED government!
