In a press statement issued Monday, Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce criticized the event, arguing it undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The United States has announced it will not participate in a United Nations-hosted conference on a two-state solution scheduled this week in New York City, labeling it an “unproductive and ill-timed” publicity stunt.

In a press statement issued Monday, Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce criticized the event, arguing it undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“This is a publicity stunt that comes in the middle of delicate diplomatic efforts to end the conflict,” Bruce stated.

“Far from promoting peace, the conference will prolong the war, embolden Hamas, and reward its obstruction and undermine real-world efforts to achieve peace.”

She echoed Secretary Rubio’s sentiment that the conference is “a slap in the face to the victims of October 7th and a reward for terrorism,” asserting it hinders efforts to free hostages and end the fighting in Gaza.

Bruce also addressed French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent announcement on recognizing a Palestinian state, noting it was “welcomed by Hamas” and risks encouraging further obstruction of ceasefire negotiations.

“The United States will not participate in this insult but will continue to lead real-world efforts to end the fighting and deliver a permanent peace,” she added, emphasizing a focus on “serious diplomacy” over “stage-managed conferences.”
