The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in prize money for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), setting a new record with a total prize pool of 10.4 million US dollars.

The announcement was made by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting the development of football across the continent.

The winner of CHAN 2024 will receive 3.5 million dollars, reflecting a 75 percent increase from the previous edition.

The runner-up will earn 1.2 million dollars, while the third- and fourth-placed teams will receive 700,000 and 600,000 dollars respectively. Quarter-finalists will each be awarded 450,000 dollars.

Teams finishing third and fourth in the group stage will receive 300,000 and 200,000 dollars respectively, with fifth-placed teams in five-team groups also receiving 200,000 dollars.

The overall prize pool represents a 32 percent increase from previous tournaments, underlining CAF’s intention to raise the competitive and financial standards of continental football competitions.

CHAN 2024 will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, marking the first time the tournament will be held across three countries. The competition is scheduled to take place from 2 August to 30 August 2025.

The tri-nation hosting arrangement is expected to boost regional cooperation and provide a platform to highlight the progress of football infrastructure in East Africa.

This edition of CHAN will continue to spotlight talent from domestic leagues, with participating teams made up exclusively of players active in their home country’s national competitions.

The combination of increased financial rewards and a historic hosting setup is seen as a major milestone for CHAN and African football at large.
