NSC applauds Tinubu for splashing cash, gifts on Super Falcons

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has commended President Bola Tinubu for honouring the Super Falcons with national awards and monetary rewards after their triumph in Morocco.
The Super Falcons came from 2–0 down to defeat Morocco 3–2 in the final, securing their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
In recognition of their achievement, Tinubu announced $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for each member of the coaching and backroom staff.
Additionally, all players and staff received three-bedroom apartments at the Renewed Hope Housing Estate, Abuja, alongside national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
Chairman of the NSC, Malam Shehu Dikko, in a statement by Kehinde Ajayi, NSC’s Director of Press, praised the President’s visionary support for Nigerian sports.
“President Tinubu nurtures and rewards excellence. His unwavering support has given Nigerian sports a renewed sense of direction and purpose.
“The Commission is thankful for the financial and policy backing the President has offered. Nigerian sports is clearly on the rise with this latest gesture,” he said.
Director-General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, called the moment a turning point and thanked Nigerians for backing the nation’s athletes.
“This marks a new dawn for sports. We appreciate every Nigerian supporting our athletes. Brighter days lie ahead.
“Our doors remain open to ideas, partnerships, and advice. We are focused on nurturing grassroots talent and achieving success at the elite level.
“Our women’s basketball team is currently in Côte d’Ivoire defending their AfroBasket title, while our youth compete in Algeria’s African School Games.
“We aim to maintain this winning momentum and continental dominance,” Olapade said.
The NSC reiterated that Nigeria is now led by a President who truly values and invests in sports development.
President Tinubu had earlier cleared outstanding payments owed to the Super Eagles from AFCON 2023 and approved pending allowances for the Super Falcons.
The NSC reaffirmed its dedication to advancing Nigerian sports and praised the Super Falcons for being exemplary ambassadors of the nation.
