Breaking: Dino Melaye dumps PDP
Former Kogi West Senator and ex-governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), officially pulling the plug on a political marriage many say had long soured.
In a resignation letter dated July 30 and addressed to the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA of Kogi State, Melaye accused the party of losing steam and failing woefully to rescue Nigeria from the “political cankerworms” devouring the nation.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” he wrote.
For a man who once served as the face of opposition theatrics in the Senate, Melaye’s exit is both symbolic and strategic. The letter signals the end of his association with a party he had courageously defended, even at personal cost.
Sources close to the former senator say his exit may not be in isolation. His close ally, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had earlier ditched the PDP, hinting at a quiet but coordinated political recalibration.
